Chapter 1 and 2 Review

In the first two chapters, we learn about the main character, Peter. He is a teenager in the middle ages during the time of knights, surfs, and castles. One especially mean knight his town must deal with is Sir Phillip, the antagonist. For 100's of years, a meadow in town was common ground for all the surrounding farming families to feed their animals as well as hunt and fish. Sir Phillip however decided to create a massive wall around it, blocking it off for the farmers. This of course angered the men,so one night, they decided to head out and destroy it. Peter was part of this group.
When they were almost finished, soldiers spotted them. Everyone fled, including Peter who hid behind a pile of rocks. Just Peters luck, Sir Phillip himself was riding just past his hiding spot. Peter couldn't help himself, so he chucked a rock at Sir Phillip, missing, however, startling the horse. Sir Phillip shot and the bullet went right through Peter's cap, barely missing him. However, after Sir Phillip had left, the cap had accidentally fallen off his head.
Later that week, the guards came to Peters school, demanding him. Peter however, ran home and told his parents what had happened. They suggest him heading away for a while until Sir Phillip had calmed down. And with only the shirt on his back and some money and food in his pocket, he set off for the biggest adventure of his life.

So far, the story relates to the Pre-Activities because in the story, Sir Phillip, is a tyrant, and a part of the Pre-Activities was the definition of a tyrant.

So far it seems like the story will either be a Person VS Person or Person VS Society. I think this because there is the conflict between Sir Phillip and Peter as well as the standards (rank as a farmer's son) to deal with.

  1. Paula,

I think it is more of a person versus society on this story because I believe that the conflict would be Peter going against established rules of English social classes.

And I agree with you that Peter's social class will be a major factor in this story.

    Brilliant!

  2. Paula,

You summary of the two chapters are very clear and informative, but I think you can add a bit more of your response to the two chapters, such as connection to any part in the chapters, or questions, etc...

I like your observation on how Peter's rank can affect his life and conflict.

    Good job!

I think for this assignment we were supposed to give connections of how these first 2 chapters relate with us and with that you could have added a little bit more depth within the response by putting yourself in Peter's shoes. Good job at giving a clear and informative description, though I would have to say that in this book it is person vs person as it is specifically Peter vs Phillip. (In today's society we are not obliged to call Phillip 'sir')
